This June, PhD researchers from the CLIMATE-INFORMED research school took part in a four-part online course on something most scientists are never actually taught: how to give a good talk.
Across four half-days, the group worked through four areas. Building a narrative so research lands as a story instead of a list of results. Designing slides people actually want to look at. Delivering the talk itself, from pacing and nerves to handling the Q&A. And using AI to generate custom images and icons for slides.
The final session put it all into practice: each participant brought a talk of their own, and the group worked on them together, live, with feedback.The course was led by Philipp Dexheimer of The Dexheimer Lab, a molecular biologist turned science communicator based in Vienna.
