Lecturer: Dr. Philipp Dexheimer
Maximum number of participants: 12
Application deadline: 28 April 2026
Course description:
This interactive workshop teaches scientists how to design and deliver engaging, well‑structured academic presentations that clearly communicate complex research. Spanning four live online sessions, the training guides participants through the complete architecture of an effective scientific talk, from narrative structure to visual design and delivery.
In addition, participants will have the opportunity to get feedback on their presentations in a 1-on-1 session within one to two weeks after the workshop.
Workshop Content:
The workshop is built around three equally weighted pillars that together form the foundation of compelling scientific presentations:
- Narrative Structure – Learn how to outline scientific problems clearly, frame research questions
convincingly, and guide audiences through a logical and engaging storyline. - Visual Slide Design – Apply core design principles to create slides that support your narrative, integrate data effectively, and enhance clarity without overwhelming viewers.
- Delivery & Presentation Dynamics – Strengthen pacing, emphasis, and audience engagement to
communicate your research with confidence and authority.
Interactive Format:
This is a hands‑on working workshop. Participants actively develop and refine their own scientific presentations throughout the four sessions.
- Live restructuring of participants’ current talks
- Practical exercises on narrative framing and slide clarity
- Group discussion and peer feedback
- Real‑time expert input and iterative improvement
- Light integration of AI tools for brainstorming and structuring support
Participant Requirements:
Participants should bring a current presentation they are working on, as well as a laptop with PowerPoint installed, which will be used during the practical exercises.
What Participants Will Take Away:
- A clearly structured and refined scientific presentation
- Frameworks to communicate complex research more effectively
- Improved slide design and visual communication skills
- Greater confidence in delivery and audience engagement
- Practical tools that can be applied to future talks immediately
About the Trainer:
Dr. Philipp Dexheimer is a science communication specialist, designer, and former molecular biologist with a background in genetics, developmental biology, and biochemistry. He leads an international science design and communication agency supporting researchers, institutes, and biotech organizations in presenting complex science with clarity and impact.
His workshops combine storytelling strategy, visual communication principles, and practical academic presentation frameworks. He has trained researchers across Europe through highly interactive programs focused on real research content and immediately applicable techniques.
